Pale Purple Coneflowers © 2010 Bo Mackison
My first wander through the Wisconsin prairies this summer – a feast of color. The pale purple coneflowers were in full bloom and danced merrily with huge stands of orange milkweed. There were a few tall yellow compass plants, towering a good five or six feet high and bright orange wood lilies, too. Plus the waving grasses.
I so love the prairie in bloom.

I used one of the art filters, black and white grainy, that are on the Olympus E-P1 (PEN) but much of the time the filters are a bit over the top for my preferences. So I modified the black and white tones in Lightroom.
I went to the Apple store last week for an in depth discussion on Aperture 3. After waiting for 6 months, Aperture 3 is out and finally there is support for the Olympus PEN cameras (and all the other micro four-thirds). I liked using the Aperture program before I purchased the PEN (and then no longer had access to it) and I’m considering getting the upgrade. It means another learning curve while learning to a new program. Sigh! And comes at a busy time for me, so I’m vacillating a bit.
I’ve got an appointment at Apple for next week…I’m thinking.
Jack in the Pulpit © 2010 Bo Mackison
Spring is for real when I can walk in the woodlands and see the first wildflowers in abundance. Today on my Sunday hike I counted thousands of trout lilies, a few buttercups, and hundreds of patches of sweet violets, Confederate violets and white violets. I only saw one Jack in the Pulpit. It’s a bit early for the Jacks, but they’ll be covering the woodland floor in another week.
I love these early spring wildflowers.
I Love Garden Centers! © 2010 Bo Mackison
There are so many bright, colorful things to photograph in garden centers in spring in Wisconsin. Not only the flowers, but the containers. These pink beauties are called Common Thrift. Not the prettiest of names, but they sure add a bright spot of color.

New news from Seeded Earth Studio! I have recently taken official steps to branch my photography into two directions.
I shoot a lot of nature and landscape photography, and these photographs will continue to appear (almost daily) on the Seeded Earth blog.
But I also have a passion for visiting and photographing historical places, and I’ve recently started a new website and blog which focuses on this genre of photographs. The new site is called, quite originally, Historic Places Photography. I feature a historic building (for now, mostly from Wisconsin, Illinois, and Arizona) two to three times a week.
I intend, in the future, to offer architectural photography to the dedicated people who undertake restorations of historical properties, and also to provide downloadable walking tours featuring photographs and information on the architecture of historic buildings in smaller cities and towns throughout the Midwest.
For now, I hope you’ll visit Historic Places Photography and check out the photography.
Early Spring Bulbs are Blooming
I was intrigued how the tulips, just beginning to open their buds yesterday, rather hunkered down against a rather sharp wind and sudden drop in temperatures today. I like the dreamy nature of this photograph, and how the bits of the interior of the red tulip are quite hidden from view.
Ahhh...Spring Flowers
More rainstorms today, but April showers bring April flowers, too. These narcissus are from my garden.
