Shooting through the green foliage on this Zahara® Yellow Zinnia plant gave the flower, even the whole photograph a rather green glow. The zinnia appears to be floating in a sea of green. From Allen Centennial Garden, urban garden on the campus of the University of Wisconsin in Madison.

The sun is shining, the snow is melting. I always think of mid-March as the teaser. Sunny days, almost touching the 50˚F mark. The a dip back into the teens or 20s and frosty again. There are bits of my yard where there are peeks of grass, though much of the yard is under 6 or more inches of crusty snow. But it’s melting. Yes, it truly will be Spring soon.
I still have to find my green in the Tropical Conservatory, but I’m practicing for when those first bits of green shoots pop out of the earth. Ahhhhhhh!

A first glance, it appears that these ficus leaves have encountered a cold weather frost. Not so. This ficus plant grows in the Bolz Conservatory, the glass greenhouse that keeps the tropics alive in a tiny part of wintry Madison. And the white is the fuzziness of its new growth.

I’m experimenting with the Lensbaby Composer, a sweet little lens on a ball and socket that allows me to swivel the lens and focus on a focal point – or not! I find that using what some photographers refer to as a “play lens” frees me from the rules and lets me take photographs that I usually see only in my imagination.
I love the abstract feel of this plant leaf taken with the macro-adapter. A bit dreamy, out of focus, a bit like thinking about the nearness of spring while mired in the last days of January.

On a hike yesterday in the woods at Owen Park in Madison, I came across a field of ferns in the woods. I love the delicacy of these plants. And green–so nice to see a sea of green again!

Maybe there isn’t green grass yet, nor green trees, but I felt the need to post a green anything. I found this big green guy in my archives.

I can finally report that Spring is making an appearance in Wisconsin. We had temperatures reach the mid-50s both days this weekend and the earth is thawing. When I walked through the yard this evening to examine the different gardens, I was happy to see the daffodils near the front door showing a bit of green.

I don’t think a flower can be any prettier than this decorative cabbage. I love the contrast of the purples and greens. Yesterday was the last day of the Dane County Farmers’ Market on the Capitol Square. Happily, the market now moves inside so we can shop in comfort. I love my Saturday forays to the Square, but I’m not fond of getting my fingers frozen pinching the produce.
