The Quincy Casket Company, also known as theĀ  S J Lessem Building, is a brick and stone, three story building perched on the bluffs of Quincy Illinois, and has a fine view overlooking the Mississippi River. Built in the mid 1850s in the Italiante Style, it was used as a factory and warehouse for its first 100 years. The building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999 due to its architectural significance.

Those are really no-nonsense fire escape doors. They almost give the impression of caskets themselves!

Obviously, back in the good old days of quality building. What a gorgeous structure – classic and classy – with amazing details. Thank you for sharing this with us, Bo.

That is a lot of red brick and probably took a good number of brick layers to build this place. Great details with the fire escape.

I also agree that the windows give off the impression of caskets. I thought that when I looked at them. Quite fascinating.
